Stockport Air Disaster 1967

On the morning of Sunday 4th June 1967, a British Midland Airways (BMA) C-4 Argonaut aircraft flying back from Palma de Mallorca,Spain to Manchester Airport crashed at Hopes Carr off Waterloo Road.

Local people, many of them on their way to worship at the Salvation Army Citadel, rescued 10 passengers ,the pilot and a stewardess before the flames engulfed the aircraft. The remaining 72 passengers on board the aircraft perished in the flames.
